I went to a Sarah Palin party this past week with a bunch of women. It was a great excuse to have lunch with my friends and then watch Sarah Palins address at the Republican Party Convention. I had watched it the night she delivered the address and laughed tremendously at the digs she had delivered to the Democrats. But truthfully, despite the jabs, I wanted more substance to her talk. We had fun at the party though and one of my friends brought a whole bunch of talking points about Palin, the republican platform, and volunteer forms.

My uncle, a very outspoken Obama supporter who shares his “Mormon for Obama” bumper stickers online through the family e-mail list and comments about how his church parking lot is united in Obama faithful infuriated me with his very public stance to the family, a very REPUBLICAN family. Course, this Uncle has always been the oddball in the family (love ya Dan!). For you uncle Dan, I have only one message:

So, I am going to verbalize my thoughts on the Republican ticket for all to see.

CAPITAL GAINS TAX
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)
DIVIDEND TAX
39.6% – (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that ‘Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.’)

– 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
Restore the inheritance tax
Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.

New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren’t high enough already) New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least….New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

I got your blog address off of Anne’s. What a great Republican you are. Go team.
Joelle
Yes! You are back to blogging! I have missed you!
1. I have to say, a few weeks ago I was still blah about McCain, but lately he has really grown on me. Palin has helped. Also, I thought his speech at the convention was fab, especially his words about education.
2. I LOVE that pic of the “trio” decorating cupcakes. Ethan’s face is hilarious. You are such a fun aunt!
3. I am going to miss you while I’m gone!
Thanks for breaking it all down. Yes it was a good lunch…love all the Mom salads…such a nice change from the hamburger helper 😉
She back and she’s on FIRE!!! Hahaha. . . I was going through Jill’s Blog withdraws (don’t ever take a month break again- I can’t take it). Also. . .I’ve been getting quite a chuckle off of the family emails. I’m still not sure if Dan is joking or being serious. I asked Gma if he was serious about the whole Obama thing and she said he’s a republican through and through but I can’t tell anymore? Thanks for the useful info as well. . . it was nice to see a side by side comparison on some key issues.
