From Caterpillar to Butterfly

72007-caterpillar-to-butterfly-016.jpgWe have had a delightful time checking out our resident Caterpillar each day to see if there has been any change to its status. 72007-caterpillar-to-butterfly-016-1.jpgOn Sunday the 8th, we finally had the big transformation. That morning when we awoke, the Caterpillar’s chrysallis had changed from a beautiful green to a black. 72007-caterpillar-to-butterfly-004-1.jpgThen, when we arrived home, we found the Monarch had come out! 72007-caterpillar-to-butterfly-008.jpg72007-caterpillar-to-butterfly-010.jpgBrian got it out of our jar. 72007-caterpillar-to-butterfly-012.jpg He let Lizzie, Sophie, and Andrew each take a turn to carefully hold it. 72007-caterpillar-to-butterfly-026.jpgThen, within an hour it had flown off. But today, we saw that same Monarch was fluttering around our front yard!

  1. I saw it a few minutes ago when I was up there. It is beautiful. So great of Steven to give us so many experiences with nature. When are you blogging about the ducks?! Should I say fowl or foul?! They are gorgeous though – I had no idea there were so many kinds of ducks.

  2. I love this. It is so magical for kids to watch the metamorphosis — we used to do it all the time. I wish we could find those caterpillars here in Utah.

  3. Those pictures are awesome. What a neat experience.
